English Footballer Geoff Hurst Launches NFT Collection to Raise Funds for Alzheimer’s Research

Geoffrey Charles Hurst, English former professional footballer and the only man to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final, has launched a non-fungible token (NFT) collection to raise funds and support Alzheimer’s research.

Dubbed “Everlasting Memory,” the project is a one-of-a-kind NFT collaboration to preserve the vivid memories of the historic 1966 World Cup Final. The digital assets are memories from the famous victory against West Germany in the form of an NFT auction.

The World Cup veteran has partnered with English artist Reeps One (Harry Yeff) to launch the collection. The NFTs are minted on the Ethereum blockchain and will go for auction on leading NFT marketplace aggregator Rarible.

Details of Everlasting Memory NFT

The Everlasting Memory NFT Project includes multiple edition NFT, which went for sale on December 3, and a one-of-one NFT, which will go on sale on December 16. The collaboration is also a part of Harry Yeff (Reeps One) & Trung Bao’s ongoing Voice Gems system.

Sir Geoff Hurst says memories fade, but the 1966 World Cup is unforgettable. He considers himself fortunate to be able to recall that life-changing incident at the age of 80. Plus, he is disheartened to learn that members of his World Cup-winning squad have been affected by the terrible disease Alzheimer’s. For him, these individuals were more than comrades. Likewise, they were heroes to the rest of the country.

Therefore, the collection is aimed to benefit a worthwhile cause, raising funds for two charities. Both of which are close to Sir Geoff’s heart – Alzheimer’s Research UK and the Alzheimer’s Society.

Only three members of England’s epic 1966 squad are still living, including Sir Geoff Hurst, with many of England’s football legends succumbing to Alzheimer’s disease.

Earlier this summer, Voice Gems founder Harry Yeff (Reeps One) met Sir Geoff at Wembley Stadium. This was also the scene of the famous World Cup Final. This is where the first sparks of this futuristic vision project came from. Furthermore, Sir Geoff opened up about his memories of inspiring Reeps One’s NFT creation.

The artwork for this project was inspired by Sir Geoff’s audio memory. Pioneering beatboxing artists Harry Yif (Rips One) and Trung Pao are leading the downward trend. Voice Gems is a 200,000 particle system that transforms voice recordings into world class sculptures. The duo has collected the world’s most famous voices and memories for the Voice Gems 1000 Year Archive.
