Toys “R” Us Dabbles into Web3 with NFT Collection

Iconic toy retailer Toys “R” Us has dabbled into the world of Web3 with the launch of a new collection of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) based on its Geoffrey the Giraffe character.

The launch comes in partnership with creative agency Anybodies and with NFT platform Magic Eden, which has been a leader in the space.

On December 9, 2022, the 10,000-piece collection will come to life. The collaboration will also take you on a physical journey mechanized by the blockchain.

According to a Twitter thread, the company also plans to launch the $GCoin token, which will be earned by staking the digital collectibles, attending events, shopping online and in-store and by interacting with specific toys.

Details of Toys R Us NFT Collection

The Toys R Us NFT collection will be sold on December 9, with each NFT priced at $100. During the sale, 2,000 NFTs will be reserved for whitelist members and an additional 2,000 left for the public.

Furthermore, three parts of the pre-sale process have already begun. This includes a private presale, an early bird sale consisting of 500 NFTs and a sale for Anybodies NFT holders consisting of 1000 NFTs.

It’s worth noting that both the early bird and Anybodies sales have completely sold out. Moreover, Toys R Us recently gave whitelist spots to the first 500 people who joined their Discord server. Fear not, there are still Geoffrey List spots available; simply head into the discord.

Toys “R” Us plans to offer unique experiences for holders of the NFTs and will use NFT, NFC and augmented reality technology to help bring toys into games and other mediums.

“A campaign to collaborate with your favorite NFT projects, bringing their collections to life as limited-edition physical collectible toys” is also mentioned by Toys “R” Us.

Toys “R” Us is a well-known toy company and is loved by fans of many ages. The brand has a history dating back 70 years.

After declaring bankruptcy in 2017, Toys “R” Us later restructured and returned with a plan to restore the Tru Kids brand and retail presence. Brand management company WHP Global now owns a controlling stake in Toys “R” Us and has embarked on a retail partnership with Macy’s Inc to bring the brand back to Macy’s stores.

Macy’s and Toys “R” Us have partnered with NFT brand VeeFriends for a collectibles partnership that brings toys based on Gary Vee’s iconic NFT collection into stores and online.
